Project Overview

The P.S. 159 Queens Flood Elimination project focused on improving drainage performance, waterproofing, and structural durability to mitigate recurring water intrusion issues at the school facility. Work included selective demolition, exterior site upgrades, foundation waterproofing, masonry rehabilitation, and interior cellar improvements, all completed within an active school environment requiring strict safety coordination and phased construction.

  • Construction performed within an occupied school, requiring controlled access, student safety measures, and coordinated work sequencing.
  • Flood mitigation improvements integrated with existing foundation and drainage systems to improve long-term building performance.
  • Detailed structural and waterproofing work at areaways and foundation walls to eliminate water infiltration.
  • Coordination of masonry repairs, concrete restoration, and cellar rehabilitation within tight existing conditions.

Detailed Scope of Work

  • Performed selective demolition and excavation to prepare for new flood mitigation work.
  • Installed new asphalt paving, concrete curbs, drainage leaders, and courtyard improvements.
  • Completed masonry repointing and façade rehabilitation including brick veneer joint repairs.
  • Performed CMU infill construction and boiler area structural upgrades.
  • Completed concrete cheek wall repairs and structural spall repairs to restore deteriorated building elements.
  • Installed waterproofing systems at interior and exterior foundation walls and areaways to improve flood protection.
  • Conducted cellar rehabilitation including drainage improvements, interior elevations, and coordinated mechanical space upgrades.
  • Maintained continuous safety oversight, inspections, closeout documentation, and final project turnover in accordance with NYCSCA standards.
